First Taped Guest:
I did tape a guest for the upcoming episode 175, and the plan is to run the rest of the tapings concurrently after that show. There is no timetable, but I do have most of the shows done leading up to 175.
I want to stay ahead of about four to six shows because this will give me a buffer and allow me to better market shows with posts and other things.
The taping went fantastic—great guest and topic. Truthfully, though, my heart wasn’t into it. You can’t tell because I give 100% to every taping. Still –and it’s something that flows into real-life things—my heart isn’t into many things right now. There’s no timetable to start regular tapings right now, but I have it out. The show celebrates its 3rd anniversary in September, and I’m mulling over a few things.
Social Media:
Until a couple of weeks ago, I had been MIA for months outside of posting for the podcast. If anyone doesn’t understand how those things work, the more you engage, the more their algorithms notice you. I’m actively engaging enough that it doesn’t handicap the podcast accounts.
I am also reaching out beyond traditional social media and ensuring I post on Threads, Mastadon, and Blue Sky. I have also joined Substack. I am also looking into other possibilities, but I will elaborate more on that when I give it more thought.
I am also working on some short videos because they draw attention and are a better marketing tool than mere postings.
Website:
A work in progress, I spent a little time rebalancing the “Home” page. The whole website still feels subpar because I’m still learning the basics of the new design software I use. Building and adjusting pages is easier, but there is still a learning curve.
The website also has a “Features” tab, which I will add a few things as I build content. There’s a “Show” tab with current shows, but as I work more on the site, it will contain a guest page, comic book company pages, pages devoted to the different ages, and a couple of other things to make it easier for fans to find shows.
That will help the podcast and the show. A “Show” tab is now at the top of the menu. Right now, it has current shows and guests. The Guest Page will give the guest a brief description of the guest. Do a click, and it takes you to a page about how all those guests appear on the show.
Final Thoughts:
I could and would have no problem continuing to do solo shows. I’ve worked out a system that works well without taking time from other things. But back in the early days, I initially decided to have guests because I wanted different perspectives on comic books and to promote smaller indie creators. Yes, eventually, I will have guests again—only when I run through my mental and podcast checklists and ensure I’m giving everything and every one 100% of what I want the podcast to be.
